Animal Aide Outaouais

Municipal

Early in 2005 the amalgamated City of Gatineau adopted harmonized animal bylaws (Réglement 183-2005) which replace the bylaws for the former municipalities of Aylmer, Hull, Gatineau, Buckingham and Masson-Angers.

The S.P.C.A. de l'Outaouais (www.spca-outaouais.org) is responsible for the City of Gatineau pound services and the sale of licences.

Pertinent points:

Licences are issued annually and cover the period from January 1 - December 31. They are available at the City's Service Centres (cash only accepted), the SPCA de l'Outaouais and various veterinarian offices.

Cost of licence for dog or cat: $40
With proof of sterilization: $30

Maximum number of dogs and/or cats allowed per lodging: 4

Claiming your lost or seized animal:

Dogs and cats who have been found or seized by animal control must be claimed within 48 hours after which the animal may be disposed of. Any costs incurred, i.e.transportation, boarding, must be paid by the animal's guardian prior to claiming the animal along with the licence fee, if applicable.

Care of your animal:

The owner of a domestic animal must also ensure the animal receives suitable care, i.e. adequate food, water and shelter. No-one may abandon or leave an animal in distress.

Penalty for violation of the municipal animal bylaws is a minimum fine of $100, plus administrative expenses.
