Minister Claude Béchard has announced a number of actions to address the welfare of animals

5 Important Measures will be Implemented

1. Increase the number of inspectors following the signing of agreements with the Societies for the Protection of Animals (SPA) and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA);
2. Establish a financial assistance program of one million dollars to improve facilities for animals at the SPA’s and SPCA’s;
3. Draft regulation establishing standards for the custody and care of companion animals;
4. Amend the Law on Health Protection of Animals to revise and increase fines and penalties against the mistreatment of animals;
5. Continue meetings of the Working Group on the welfare of companion animals.
