Dog Bite Prevention

Some ways to help prevent your own dog biting:

• Spay or neuter your dog. He is much less likely to bite.
• Learn where the dogs in your neighborhood live.
• If you have a puppy, take him to puppy class. Make sure he is well socialized by exposing him to a variety of situations, people and other dogs.
• Ensure your dog is trained (using praise and affection):
  • not to bite hands
  • to listen to you
  • to be comfortable with other dogs and people.
• Make sure your dog has all of his vaccinations.
• Don't play rough games (such as tug of war) or tease your dog.
• Do not chain your dog. This can make him frustrated and angry.
• Never disturb a dog who is sleeping, eating or caring for puppies.
• Don't put your face close to your dog's face.
